Commissioned in March of 1941, the then Naval Air Station Atlanta was built on the site of the former US Army Installation Fort Gordon, and served as primary flight training for Naval and Marine Corps aviators through WW2 until 1959. The Navy then moved its operations to the current site of Clay Army National Guard Center located within Dobbins ARB in Marietta, GA due to the coming of the jet age and the need for longer runways. The former NAS Atlanta site now serves the Metro Atlanta area as Peachree-Dekalb Airport, a county-owned public use airport in Dekalb County, GA. PDK ranks as Georgia’s second busiest airport and has averaged 230,000 operations-takeoffs and landings-annually for more than thirty years.
In 2014, A & D Painting, Inc was asked by the facility managers at PDK to assist with painting the exterior of a number of original buildings, as well as the former air traffic control tower that still stands atop. The support buildings currently host hanger space, office space, and even a full-service restaurant that is open to the public and offers its patrons breathtaking views of the surrounding tarmacs and runways of the airport.

Given the height of these structures, crews incorporated the use of a 65’ boom lift during production. Additionally, A & D Project Managers phased the operations of the project to work around the daily operations of the building’s tenants.
