Mt Pisgah School Gym Ceiling

Johns Creek, Ga

Mt Pisgah, a preschool – 12th grade Christian private school located in John’s Creek, Ga recently contracted A & D Painting to recoat their middle school campus gym ceiling, a few areas of drywall soffit and corresponding walls, as well as the multiple retractable basketball goals.  The goal in this case was to give the athletic facility a refresh of its current look during a short window of school downtime over Spring Break.

Access needs required

  • Use of three 26’ narrow scissor lifts to access all areas.

Set up and prep included:

  • Covering all surfaces, including walls, basketball goals, retractable bleachers, floors and stair systems within the gym being with plastic sheeting. This plastic would eventually catch the excess Acrylic Dry-Fall dust-like material that fell as the ceiling was coated.  Additionally, all HVAC vents were covered and the HVAC system itself for the building was turned off during production to ensure that this dust did not travel to other parts of the building.
  • Removing the multiple basket balls, volley balls, soccer balls, dodge balls, tennis balls, and wiffle balls that had accumulated in the ceiling structure over the years.
  • Scraping previous coatings that showed signs of failure and cleaning on all ceilings, support structures, ductwork and walls, as to ensure a good bonding surface for the new coatings.
  • Spot-priming as appropriate

The products for this project included:

  • Ceiling/Support Structures/Ductwork- Sherwin Williams, Acrylic Dry-Fall, Two Coats
  • Walls- Sherwin Williams, Pro-Mar 200, Two Coats
  • Basketball Structure- Sherwin Williams, Industrial Enamel, Two Coats.

Cleanup included:

  • Two full days of clean up prior to releasing the area back to the building management
  • Removal all plastic sheeting and tape
  • Mopping the gym floors

The project was completed in just under one week and was ready for use when kids returned the following week.
