Swan House

130 West Paces Ferry Atlanta, GA

Designed and built beginning in 1925 for Edward and Emily Inman by Philip Trammel Shutze, Swan House is located in the Buckhead area of Atlanta and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Owned by the Atlanta Historical Society, Swan House has been open to the public for tours since 1976 and offers guests a glimpse of 1920’s life in Atlanta.  Swan House is also the backdrop of many of the area’s private functions, as well as the occasional movie set.

In the Spring of 2022, A & D Painting, Inc was asked to complete a repaint project that included all of the building’s exterior trim, as well as miscellaneous portions of the interior.  The exterior scope incorporated all areas of soffit, fascia, widows, window frames, doors and door frames, while the interior scope was limited to plater repair and repainting portions of the walls and ceiling.

Exterior products included:

  • Benjamin Moore Exterior Multi-Surface Primer- Spot prime
  • Benjamin Moore Exterior Ultra Spec- Two coats- misc. trim (blown aggregate was added per spec)
  • Benjamin Moore Exterior Reserve- Two coats for all windows and sashes
  • Interior products included:
  • Sherwin Williams PrepRite ProBlock- Spot prime
  • Benjamin Moore Interior Ultra Spec- Two coats- walls and ceilings where needed.

For the exterior portions of the project, crews were faced with access difficulties for the upper portions of the structure and worried that a boom lift may cause damage to the delicate landscape.  The work around for these issues was employing the use of an extended boom lift outfitted with special balloon tires.  Problem solved!

The project was completed in a relatively short amount of time, while working around the normal daily operations of the property that included lots of guests, tours and special events.
